We Will Once Again Request Serbia to Extradite Marović

Montenegro intends to once again seek the extradition of Svetozar Marović from Serbia, as stated by Justice Minister Bojan Božović during an interview with Newsmax Balkans television.

Marović, a former senior official in Montenegro, the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, and the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), was sentenced in 2016 to three years and nine months for corruption.

He previously acknowledged that he leveraged his political influence to acquire land in Budva through his son Miloš’s company, who subsequently received a one-year prison sentence.

For the past nine years, the elder Marović, along with his son—whose sentence has since expired—has been evading his prison term by residing in Serbia, which has yet to extradite him despite receiving multiple requests.

Božović mentioned that his department will continue discussions with counterparts in the Serbian Ministry of Justice, emphasizing the existing good cooperation between the two entities.

When questioned by reporters about the lack of visible cooperation in Marović’s case, Božović noted that every nation reserves the right to determine whether they choose to extradite individuals.
