Tamara Veljović, the wife of former Police Administration director Veselin Veljović, has been suspended for a serious breach of official duty, as reported by Vijesti.
The suspension was authorized by Interior Minister Danilo Šaranović after the Government Appeals Commission requested the case be revisited.
Veljović has held multiple positions within the security sector and faced previous suspensions, notably in early 2025 due to disciplinary actions.
She commenced her employment on December 14, 2010, with her hiring decision endorsed by her husband, then Police Director Veselin Veljović.
After a year, she was assigned to the National Central Bureau of Interpol as an independent police commissioner-analyst for six months. This role ended on February 28, 2012, due to mutual consent.
Her re-hire occurred on December 5, 2013, when she joined the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ) as a junior police inspector, based on a public competition and the decision made by the then director, Slavko Stojanović.
Reports indicate she experienced numerous transfers afterward. From 2015 to 2019, she worked as a junior police inspector in the Special Police Unit, later becoming a senior police advisor in the Department for International Police Cooperation and Public Relations, a role she maintained until October 11, 2024. Post that, she transitioned to a senior police inspector in the Department for Support to Police Organizational Units, Work Improvement, and Analytics. All assignment decisions throughout her career were signed by Veselin Veljović, Slavko Stojanović, and Zoran Brđanin.
According to the IN4S portal, based on information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Tamara Veljović has reportedly not attended work for over a decade while still receiving her monthly salary.
The only confirmed period of her presence at work was from October 28, 2024, to February 2025, during which she was initially suspended.
On February 17, 2025, Minister Šaranović suspended Tamara Veljović again due to the initiation of disciplinary proceedings for a serious breach of her official duties.
In July 2023, her husband, Veselin Veljović, was arrested during a Special Police Department operation on orders from the Special State Prosecutor’s Office. He is suspected of being part of a criminal organization allegedly led by Aleksandar Mrkić. Veljović faces charges of organizing a criminal entity and abuse of office, with the trial taking place at the Higher Court in Podgorica, recently joined with the case against former Bar Criminal Police chief Ilija Vasović.
