The Mediterranean: Pioneering the Global Shift Towards Cleaner Energy

The Mediterranean region, blessed with abundant solar and wind resources, a strategic location, and significant hydrogen potential, is undergoing an energy transition, as highlighted by Branislav Prelević, the President of the Energy Regulatory Agency and regulated utility (Regagen).

Prelević took part in the role of the Mediterranean Energy Regulators (Medrega) during the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly, specifically at the roundtable discussing energy transitions throughout the Mediterranean: Enabling the Infrastructure for a Sustainable Future and Mining Sustainable Infrastructure.

In a statement released by Regagen, he noted the increasing demand for energy and the urgent need for action on climate change, emphasizing the readiness to meet these growing needs while providing Europe and beyond with clean energy.

Prelević asserted the importance of aligning regulations pertaining to electricity, hydrogen, and their derivatives to facilitate international trade.

He also provided an overview of Medrega’s activities planned through 2030, aimed at ensuring regulatory compliance, infrastructure investment, market development, and political cooperation, all designed to enhance the potential for international trade in electricity, hydrogen, and their derivatives.

This meeting also allowed Prelević and the Medrega Secretariat to connect with partner organizations to coordinate and plan future joint activities.
