Montenegrin Women Set for Groundbreaking Showcase in the Golden League

The Montenegrin women’s volleyball team is set to make a historic debut in the CEV Gold League.

Our players will kick off this prestigious competition, starting with matches held on their home turf against Spain and Ukraine.

Montenegro is eager to host its opponents in the “Verde” hall, with the opening match scheduled for Friday against Spain at 18:00 (entry is free).

“Spain recently played two friendly matches against Belgium, and we observed their performance. They showcase fast-paced volleyball and possess quality. What’s uncertain is how we will perform, as we haven’t had any friendly matches. The first two games in this tournament will offer a glimpse into our current status and reveal the capabilities of our national team with this lineup. We will prepare thoroughly, stay patient, and see what we can achieve,” shared coach Jovo Caković.

On the second day of the tournament, Spain will face Ukraine, while Montenegro will compete against the Ukrainians on Sunday. All matches are set to begin at 18:00.

“I believe our preparations have gone quite well, despite a few challenges. Simona Petranović is sidelined with an injury, but we’ve had a productive period adapting to the new coach’s approach and refining the gameplay details that previously posed problems,” remarked middle blocker Mina Dragović.

The Golden League serves as an important lead-up to the European Championship qualifiers.

“Entering this tournament with courage is essential. While qualifying for the European Championship is our main goal, we are equally determined to excel in the Golden League. This competition will allow us to assess our standing against stronger teams, which is crucial for our preparation. Our initial focus is on the match against Spain, and as hosts, we need the audience’s support,” Dragović emphasized before concluding:

“Spain is a quick team. We need strong block defense, but it’s vital that we concentrate more on our own game and strategy.”

Injuries have sidelined Simona Petranović and Melissa Cenović, leaving coach Caković to rely on 14 players for the tournament’s opening.
