The third match and the second win for the Montenegrin water polo team in the World Cup qualification tournament.

Montenegro triumphed over France with a score of 18:13, though coach Dejan Savić expressed his dissatisfaction with specific phases and aspects of the team’s performance.

“We had a disastrous start – lacking direction, motivation, and energy. However, we improved our defense and secured the victory, which is crucial. We faced numerous exclusions, but in certain defensive and offensive situations, we managed to perform effectively. I allowed the players some freedom to adapt and capitalize on those moments,” said the Montenegrin coach, adding:

“It’s interesting that we conceded 13 goals yet still won; that’s unusual for me.”

In the quarter-finals, Montenegro will face the United States (Friday at 16:30).

“The Americans have come with a different lineup, but they are a very formidable team. They haven’t played a match in two days, so it will be intriguing to see how we prepare for that clash. Our approach must vastly change,” Savić noted.

Savo Ćetković was named player of the match, netting five goals.

“I believe we played well. Now we need to focus on the USA and I hope for an even better performance and another victory,” he stated.

Filip Gardašević also scored five goals during the match.

“We were the favorites, and we demonstrated that today by truly wanting to win. Perhaps the French had a stronger motive since this match was critical for their World Cup qualification, but we rightfully celebrated our victory.”
