Minister of Public Administration Maraš Dukaj noted that the Regional Center for Cyber Capacities of the Western Balkans is positioning Montenegro as a hub for experience sharing and knowledge acquisition in this field.

Today, Dukaj met with NATO’s Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska in Podgorica.

Šekerinska also visited the Regional Cyber Capability Center (WB3C) and Montenegro’s State Cyber Security Operations Center (GSOC) today.

Dukaj, as announced by the Ministry of Public Administration, stated that the cyber attack in August 2022 highlighted the importance of Montenegro’s NATO membership, and emphasized the swift support received from allied nations.

“This event served as a catalyst for strategic reforms in our cyber policy. Within less than three years of intensive and professional collaboration with relevant partners and allies, we have accomplished remarkable results. Today, not only do we have top-level protection, but Montenegro is also becoming a center for exchanging experiences and gaining new expertise in this area, all thanks to the Western Balkans Regional Cyber Capabilities Center,” Dukaj remarked.

He asserted that the establishment of the Regional Cyber Capabilities Center (WB3C) is of particular significance for Montenegro as both a NATO member and an EU candidate country.

“The fact that the center is based in Podgorica underscores our dedication to enhancing both national and regional cybersecurity. This demonstrates Montenegro’s commitment to fulfilling the standards and obligations associated with its EU accession process. Montenegro aims to contribute, alongside other allies, to a comprehensive response to the increasing challenges posed by cybersecurity. I believe that the issue of the Western Balkans will remain a priority for NATO,” Dukaj added.

According to the statement, Šekerinska commended the advancements made in Montenegro’s cyber capabilities.
