Titograd, February 13, 1949, marked an extraordinary event in handball history with a surprising score of 5:2. While few anticipated this outcome at the time, it would later be remembered as the day the largest sports club in Montenegro was established.

The women’s handball club Budućnost triumphed over Jug from Dubrovnik, and everything that followed became a part of history. The two stars of the Champions League on the club’s crest stand as a timeless testament to this remarkable achievement.

The club has been immortalized by legends including Svetlana Antić, Ljiljana Vučević, Olga Sekulić, Zorica Pavićević, Katica Lješković, Stanka Mugoša, Mirjana Mugoša, Stojanka Mugoša, Milanka Šćepanović, Mirsada Ganić, Marta Bojanović, Dragana Pešić, Maja Bulatović, Bojana Popović, Maja Savić, Katarina Bulatović, Milena Raičević, and countless others, as they celebrate their 75th anniversary today.

The monumental stories began with Dušan Dujo Đurišić and were highlighted by the arrival of the esteemed Vinko Kandija (who joined at Đurišić’s recommendation), followed by notable coaches like Nikola Petrović and Dragan Adžić…

Budućnost has claimed titles including the Cup Winners’ Cup (1985, 2006, and 2010) and the EHF Cup (1987), but the Champions League trophy has always been their ultimate aspiration…

After numerous attempts and several semi-final setbacks, the stars finally aligned on May 13, 2012, when Adžić’s team clinched the long-coveted cup through Đero in the electrifying Morača arena.

After a prolonged wait for their first Champions League trophy, they achieved their second in just three years, demonstrating complete dominance. The “blues” triumphed over Larvik in the final of the Final Four held in Budapest.

During those pivotal years, Predrag Bošković served as the club president, while Rade Biljo Đuričković, Miško Kalezić, Radomir Đurđić, and Đuričković himself laid the groundwork for the future.

Integral to this golden era were various international players, including Tatjana Jeraminok, Nataša Cigankova, Klara Woltering, and Kristina Neagu, who significantly impacted the club’s history.

In total, the club has secured six European cups, 34 championship titles across four nations, and a plethora of unforgettable victories, with players proudly donning the blue and white jerseys…

Thus, the remarkable journey began on February 13, 1949, and it has never truly paused…
