Prime Minister Milojko Spajić has submitted a written request to Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić to expand the agenda for the Assembly session scheduled for Thursday, April 17. The request includes draft laws aimed at ratifying two agreements with the United Arab Emirates, as reported by “Vijesti”.

The drafts consist of the Law on Ratification of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Areas of Tourism and Real Estate Development between the Government of Montenegro and the UAE, as well as the Law on Ratification of the Agreement on Economic Cooperation between the two governments, which were presented to Parliament on April 8.

On March 28 in Dubai, Spajić signed the agreements concerning economic cooperation and tourism and real estate development with the UAE. He had earlier communicated with local leaders in Ulcinj regarding the purported intention of Arab billionaire Mohamed Alabar to invest 35 billion euros in a tourist complex in the area, along with a 99-year lease of the entire Ulcinj Velika Plaža. Some members of the public and the NGO sector argue that these agreements conflict with national interests in several respects and could hinder Montenegro’s aspirations for European Union (EU) membership.

This morning, “Vijesti” reported that Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović has reached out to European Commissioner for Enlargement, Maroš Šefčovič, for an official evaluation of whether the intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism and Real Estate Development, signed between Montenegro and the UAE, aligns with the EU’s acquis communautaire, the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU, and its underlying values.
