Following his appointment as the new coach a year ago, Vlado Šola has been awarded a new contract.

The Handball Association of Montenegro has chosen to extend its collaboration with the Croatian expert.

As reported by the RSCG, the Association’s Steering Committee agreed to continue the partnership and formalize a new contract based on President Petr Kapisoda’s recommendation.

“Together with my team, I will strive to meet the trust placed in us,” stated Šola, expressing gratitude to Kapisoda and the players for their genuine commitment to the national jersey.

The new contract will remain in effect until the conclusion of the World Cup in Croatia, Denmark, and Norway, which ends in January 2025.

Šola’s previous contract had lapsed after the recently held European Championship in Germany.

“To our mutual satisfaction, we decided to continue the collaboration, allowing the renowned Croatian goalkeeper to guide the ‘lions’ in the May play-offs against Belgium or Italy for a spot in the World Cup,” concludes the RSCG.

After a somewhat lackluster performance from the “lions” in the final stages of European Championship qualification, Šola managed to reestablish focus during the recent Euro, with Montenegro narrowly defeated by Hungary and Iceland, while a victory against Serbia provided a more favorable draw for the upcoming World Cup.

“In March, we anticipate a gathering during the EHF week, where we will play one or two friendly matches. This will be an opportunity to evaluate some new players and address any shortcomings observed after the European Championship,” Šola added.

To qualify for the Handball World Cup next January, our national team will compete on May 8 and 15 against the stronger team from the March matches between Belgium and Italy.

“Our primary objective this year is the play-offs in May, and we’ll begin preparations for this double match once our opponent—Italy or Belgium—is confirmed. I am confident there will be ample time for thorough preparation,” concluded Šola.
