The President of the Municipal Board of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) in Cetinje, Oskar Huter, revealed today during the session of the Assembly of the Royal Capital that the party’s councilors are collectively resigning and returning their mandates to the citizens, as reported by RTV Cetinje.

Huter stated that this decision stems from the worsening security situation in Cetinje and the institutional incapacity to ensure citizen safety.

After sharing their views, the DPS councilors exited the assembly hall.

In a statement to RTV Cetinje, Huter explained that DPS councilors have made every effort to achieve unity.

“Our role in parliament has become futile, as we are unable to receive responses from the organizations to which we have submitted our requests. Almost three years after the first tragedy, the local parliament has failed to deliver a single response, selflessly ignoring our requests. The situation is deteriorating, and innocent citizens are suffering. This parliament should prioritize security, but we cannot obtain answers from those in charge. There is no common ground within the local parliament,” Huter told RTV Cetinje.

The Mayor of Cetinje, Nikola Đurašković, remarked that the resignations of some DPS councilors today are merely “cheap advertising” before the elections, indicating that citizens must understand this mandate will conclude in a few months.

“Thus, resigning a few months prior to the end of their mandate is nothing but the commencement of the election campaign. Instead of fostering unity and advocating for the city and its citizens, they have reaffirmed their focus on elections and power struggles,” Đurašković wrote on Facebook.

He noted it was peculiar that the entire DPS did not resign from the national parliament, which, unlike the local administrations, holds the responsibility for security both nationwide and in Cetinje.

“Regardless of everything, I once again urge unity and collective action for the benefit of Cetinje, as I have consistently advocated throughout my term. A hand is always extended for the greater good of Cetinje,” concluded Đurašković.
