Today, the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, declared that he will thoroughly review the laws that affirm the Government’s agreements made with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He spoke to reporters after participating in the NATO Youth Summit organized by the Atlantic Alliance of Montenegro and NATO, currently taking place in Budva.

Milatović noted that the laws arrived two days ago, and there is a seven-day deadline for signing them, which will conclude at the beginning of next week.

He previously stated that he would not endorse laws confirming the government’s agreements with the UAE, which he had previously classified as illegitimate.

Today, he expressed his satisfaction with Montenegro hosting the fifth NATO Youth Summit.

“It’s a significant initiative for Montenegro and a testament to credible membership. This presents a valuable opportunity to convey important messages regarding our membership. I believe this platform has fostered the modernization of our Army. Montenegro allocates two percent of its budget for defense, and we began constructing ships for the Navy yesterday. NATO membership is vital for our path toward the European Union (EU).

Milatović emphasized that Montenegro has met its commitments from the 2014 NATO summit in Wales, where it agreed to allocate two percent for defense. He anticipates that during the upcoming summit in The Hague this year, Montenegro will likely agree to allocate over three percent and is confident that this goal will be achieved.

He also stated that the Army of Montenegro, as an allied force, is actively involved in missions along the eastern front, including presence in Bulgaria and Latvia, thereby contributing to the security of that region.

“Beyond the NATO alliance, the Montenegrin Army also participates in United Nations missions, such as in Cyprus, further enhancing our image as a UN member,” said the president.
