Manny Pacquiao, the legendary Filipino boxer and the first to secure world titles across eight weight divisions, announced his plans to step back into the ring on July 19 in Las Vegas, where he will face off against Mario Barrios.
“I’ve returned,” declared Pacquiao, 46, via social media.
This bout will be contested for the WBC welterweight world title.
Pacquiao’s illustrious career came to a close in September 2021 after 72 bouts, culminating in 62 victories, 8 draws, and 8 setbacks.
“I will be fighting on July 19th against WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios in Las Vegas,” he confirmed.
The boxing icon steps back into competition after his involvement in the Philippine elections and a failed Senate bid.
“Let’s create history,” Pacquiao remarked.
Previously, he served as a senator from 2016 to 2022, and he ran for President of the Philippines in 2022.
Proudly, Pacquiao will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this June.
Mario Barrios, his upcoming opponent, is a 30-year-old Mexican-American boxer who boasts a record of 32 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw from 29 matches.
