Minister of Human and Minority Rights, Fatmir Đeka, announced that he would address the request from minority representatives to halt the parliamentary session regarding agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for government coordination once an official inquiry is received.
When approached for comments by “Vijesti,” Đeka refrained from discussing the ongoing dispute concerning Albanian Alliance MP Ilir Čapuni’s request for the session’s suspension. Čapuni argues that the agreements with the UAE could jeopardize minority communities’ rights, making his request under Article 29 of the Law on Minority Rights.
During last night’s parliamentary session, Čapuni’s request was denied by Minister of Public Works Majda Adžović and Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić. They assert that the agreements do not threaten minority rights since they lack references to specific locations.
In response to inquiries from “Vijesti,” Đeka was asked whether Čapuni is entitled to call for a pause in the session for reconciliation, or if Adžović possesses the authority to reject such requests based on the claim that the agreements do not endanger minority rights.
“We will certainly issue a statement once we receive an official inquiry,” Đeka replied succinctly.
