Filip Milosavljević: Learning from the Best to Become the Best

The junior team from Budva has clinched the Montenegrin championship title once again, showcasing the team’s supremacy in the Montenegrin tourist metropolis—a longstanding hub of men’s volleyball.

In the final showdown, Miljan Bošković’s squad showcased exceptional skill, overpowering Budućnost with a flawless score. While other teams are also training diligently and advancing, the standard set by Budva remains unmatched.

Fifteen-year-old receiver Filip Milosavljević emerged as a key player throughout the championship. Having already made appearances in senior competitions and representing Montenegro in three different categories (pioneer, cadet, junior), he views this title as a stepping stone for future endeavors.

“The experience is truly amazing. I’m thrilled that we’ve secured the junior title as Montenegrin champions and have lived up to our expectations as favorites. We understood the challenges ahead; however, from start to finish, we gave our best. The entire team remained focused, motivated, and played cohesively. This title is a testament to our collective effort, hard work, and the positive atmosphere within the squad. I am proud of my teammates and coaching staff; we have rightfully earned our place at the top,” Milosavljević stated for odbojka.me.

Filip’s contributions were significant.

“I’m pleased with my performances, yet I believe there’s always room for improvement. I aimed to deliver my best on every point, maintaining stability in reception and confidence in offense. As a receiver, I bear considerable responsibility, and I’m glad I could assist the team in crucial moments. Improvement motivates me to work and train even harder.”

Growing up in Budva, Filip had access to facilities that allowed him to practice volleyball from a young age.

“Volleyball Club Budva holds immense significance for me. It’s not merely a club but an environment where I’ve gained invaluable experience. Budva has been the epicenter of men’s volleyball in Montenegro for years, and being part of this tradition is both an honor and a responsibility. Each training session and match carries weight as I represent a club with high aspirations and a rich legacy. I take pride in wearing the Budva jersey and strive to honor the trust placed in me by my coach, teammates, and fans.”

The senior EPSG Super League season, where Budva excels, offers a crucial platform for young players’ development. Filip has certainly stepped into this challenge—and he isn’t alone.

“Competing in senior matches is incredibly valuable for me. It provides immense experience and a chance to grow, as I face older and more experienced opponents. Every moment on the court contributes to my maturity, allowing me to learn and identify areas for improvement. The time spent on the court enhances my confidence, but it also adds a responsibility to prove myself worthy of the trust given to me. I’m grateful to my coaches for this opportunity and aim to make the most of it, knowing such chances are rare at my age.”

At first glance, all seems perfect, but there appears to be a missing element—perhaps a stronger competition, in both senior and junior leagues.

“Robust competition fosters growth for both individuals and the entire team. Budva currently leads in every category—an outcome of the club’s dedicated efforts. However, a more competitive league would be beneficial for all of us, delivering tougher and more unpredictable matches that compel us to perform at our best, accelerate our progress, and develop mental resilience. While we in Budva aim to avoid complacency and approach every opponent seriously, stronger competition would undoubtedly enhance the league’s overall quality,” Milosavljević emphasizes.

Next season promises to bring competition, as Budva and Budućnost will participate in the regional MEVZA league. Even though he is just 15, Filip Milosavljević is eager for his chance.

“The MEVZA League is an exciting competition, and it would honor me to be part of it. Despite my youth, I view every challenge as a potential for growth. The regional league presents superior and faster-paced matches against teams from established volleyball backgrounds, creating a setting where quick adaptation and learning are necessary. If I am given the opportunity to compete in the MEVZA League, I will do my utmost to validate the trust placed in me and prove my capability to compete at that level. It’s a significant step up and a tremendous motivation for my future endeavors.”

Filip and his young peers have experienced mentors, which plays a crucial role in their development.

“It’s tough to pick just one, as I’ve learned something valuable from all my teammates, but if I must highlight someone, it would be our captain Balša Radunović. His training approach, composure under pressure, and professionalism continuously inspire me. He is always available to offer advice and assistance to younger players, showcasing what it means to be a true athlete.”

Despite juggling club commitments and national team obligations, Filip successfully manages his academic responsibilities.

“It’s challenging, yet when you’re passionate about something and have a clear goal, anything is achievable. With commitments to three national teams and my club, training and travel are almost daily, but I strive not to neglect my studies. I make the most of my free time to study or catch up on missed work. I also have the support of my family, coaches, and teachers, who are understanding, and their encouragement means a lot. Although it’s demanding, I believe diligent work pays off and that current efforts are laying the foundation for my future as an athlete and an individual.”

Filip admires French national team member and two-time Olympic champion Ervin N’Gapet.

“I appreciate his style of play, confidence, and how he handles responsibilities in critical moments. He consistently displays motivation, bravery, and passion, which fuels my own inspiration. I admire how he integrates technique, strength, and flair into his game. His unpredictability makes him a joy to watch, and I aspire to learn from his gameplay and incorporate elements into my own. He serves as a pivotal role model and motivation to relentlessly improve myself.”

Having competed at the pioneer, cadet, and junior levels, Filip Milosavljević’s logical progression leads to the senior national team of Montenegro.

When asked where he envisions himself in four years, he responds:

“I aspire to play at a high level within a reputable European club and be a regular member of the senior national team of Montenegro. Achieving this requires immense dedication, discipline, and sacrifice, but I’m fully prepared for the journey. I wish to evolve as a player and as an individual, continually improving and learning from the best. My ultimate goal is to someday compete against those I view as role models today, standing shoulder to shoulder with them. I have faith in myself and my path, and I’m confident that with the right effort, I can turn these dreams into reality.”
