The residents of Bar are experiencing significant negligence from local institutions, as highlighted by the Initial Committee of the Europe Now Movement (PES) Bar today.

“Specifically, DOO Vodovod i kanalizacija Bar has improperly connected the fecal sewage line directly to the atmospheric sewage system, resulting in fecal water spilling into the Port of Bar area. This troubling approach to problem-solving reflects the local government’s irresponsibility and a complete disregard for the health and dignity of Bar’s citizens. This issue represents more than just a technical failure; it showcases the neglect of institutions, dysfunctional community infrastructure, legal violations, and a general indifference towards the everyday concerns of the people,” the statement asserts.

The PES Bar further emphasizes that the citizens of Bar should not suffer as collateral damage due to political ineptitude and inaction.

“It is crucial to end this culture of accountability evasion, where no one takes responsibility for the adverse effects felt by all—such as a polluted environment, deteriorated health, and an overall decline in quality of life. We urge the relevant institutions to act swiftly and find a lasting solution to this crisis, ensuring that fecal sewage is treated in accordance with all applicable standards and regulations before being released into the sea. Should the local government be unable to address the fundamental issues facing its citizens, it should publicly acknowledge this and return its mandate to the people,” stated the PES Bar Initial Board.
