Last night, the Teoda basketball team triumphed over Podgorica with a score of 79:72 at the “Bemax Arena” during the 23rd round of the First Montenegrin Basketball League, effectively securing one of the two spots for next season’s NLB ABA2 League.
In this league, matches against SC Derbi do not count, and those against Milenijum, which withdrew after eight rounds, are also disregarded. Consequently, Dušan Dubljević’s team now holds a record of 17-3, while Sutjeska records 17-2. Sutjeska is set to face Primorje tonight (February 23). Should Sutjeska win, both the Nikšić team and Teoda from Tivat will confirm their spots in the ABA2 league for the upcoming season.
Currently, Primorje stands at 15-4, while Podgorica trails closely at 15-5. Notably, Teoda holds an advantage over Sutjeska, Podgorica, and Primorje in their head-to-head encounters.
After the conclusion of the 23rd round, three more rounds will remain in the regular season, but each of Teoda and Podgorica still has two matches left. Teoda will compete against Dečić and Kotor, while Podgorica will face Vukovi and Dečić.
On the flip side, Primorje and Sutjeska are slated for three more matches post this evening’s game, facing SC Derbi, whose outcomes are not factored in. Nikšić will also play Danilovgrad and Vukovi, while Novalja faces Ibar and Jedinstvo.
Regarding the game at the “Bemax Arena,” Teoda started strong, leading 10:6, but Podgorica responded with a 14:0 run to take a commanding 20:10 lead and extended it to as much as 17 points (37:20).
However, the tide turned dramatically as Dušan Dubljević’s squad launched a 9:0 run, narrowing the gap to 54:48. After a three-pointer from Kusovac, they trailed by just one (59:57) and finally seized the lead with Popović’s contributions, bringing the score to 62:61.
In the final quarter, Teoda surged with an 11:0 run, establishing a 75:64 margin, thus clinching the victory.
Miloš Popović once again shone for Teoda with 21 points and nine rebounds. Vujisić contributed 18 points, Vranješ scored 16, and Kusovac added 12 points.
For Podgorica, Jacobs and Đurišić each netted 14 points, while Radunović and Živanović scored 11 points apiece.
