The Secretariat for Sports of the Capital City, in collaboration with the Junior Basketball Club, is setting up the fourth edition of one of Podgorica’s most beloved sports and recreational events – “Basketball in my neighborhood.”

“We saw a record participation of 64 teams in the third edition of ‘Basketball in my neighborhood.’ Each qualifying tournament was packed, and the basketball players delivered an impressive performance at the final event. This enthusiasm showcases how deeply this urban initiative has resonated with basketball and sports lovers in our city. Motivated by this success, we aim to elevate the organization of the fourth edition and further boost the development of sports and recreation in Podgorica, while celebrating the essence of street basketball and enhancing neighborhood open courts,” stated the organizers.

The cash prize pool for this year’s “Basketball in my neighborhood” will reach 4,500 euros, with total prizes, including sponsorship contributions, exceeding 6,500 euros!

“There will be four qualifying tournaments, where the top three teams will win a spot in the grand finale at Njegošev Park. Additionally, we have allocated cash prizes of 200 euros for each tournament winner, while second and third place teams will receive valuable sponsorship rewards, thanks to our partners, Crnogorski Telekom, Dunk Shop, and Montecco. A new feature this year is an MVP award for each qualifying tournament. The prize fund for the final tournament has increased compared to last year and will total 3,700 euros: 2,000 for the champions, 1,000 for the runners-up, and 700 euros for the third-place team.”

Registrations for the qualifying tournaments commenced yesterday, and interested teams can sign up as follows:

“Teams can register for the competition in three ways: via email at basketumomkvartu@gmail.com or through our Instagram and Facebook pages, Basket u mom kvartu. The application must include the names and surnames of four players (three plus one substitute), along with their dates and year of birth, team name, the location of the qualifying tournament they wish to enter, and the contact number for the team captain. Each player can only compete for one team, and each team is limited to one qualifying tournament. All participants are required to have an identification document on the day of the competition. Team registrations start today and will continue until May 6 for the first tournament (teams can also register for additional tournaments from the onset). The maximum number of teams allowed per qualifying tournament is 16.”

The following individuals are eligible to participate in the tournaments:

– All citizens born in 2007 and onwards who are medically fit to engage in sports.

The following individuals are ineligible to participate:

– Basketball players registered in the IA Basketball League of Montenegro and other athletes registered in the top tiers of official national competitions abroad, with the exception of those who are 20 years old or younger, or 35 and older.

There is no registration fee for tournament participation!

The qualifying tournaments will take place at the following venues:

May 10th – Open field at the University Sports Center

May 17th – Court “across the Morača,” behind the Alpe bar

May 25th – Field in Zabjelo, next to the Resource Center

May 31st – Court in Murtovina (Orijenska Street) in the park behind Laković
