The Herceg Novi Municipal Assembly approved a new utility services price list during its session on March 21, following a decision from the Board of Directors of the Municipal and Housing Company.

Tenants were taken aback by the new rental prices for stalls, as reported by the RTHN portal.

According to the Board of Directors’ statement, the new price list considers the overall estimated business costs and financial sustainability while keeping in mind the citizens’ general economic interest. It was noted that rental prices for stalls and business premises have remained unchanged since 2020.

Duška Radomirović, a long-time fish vendor at the market, conveyed to RTHN that the repeated price hikes impose a heavy financial burden on tenants.

“The prices at the fish market were raised the very next day after the vote. We pay 10 euros daily for a refrigerated counter that holds three cases, which amounts to 300 euros monthly. The monthly rental is 40 euros. They base everything on Tivat’s standards, yet their refrigerated counters accommodate 10 cases. I must make 35 euros immediately just to cover my daily costs. Fish prices haven’t changed, and we can’t raise them as it would deter buyers. If it weren’t for the Russians and a few tourists, our sales would plummet,” Radomirović remarked.

Agricultural producer Mila Vavić noted that daily stall rental costs have surged from three to 10 euros.

“Without my own products, I wouldn’t manage at all, and had I not prepaid for winter, I would have walked away from the lease. I feel for our customers, as our prices will inevitably increase,” Mila stated, mentioning that they have signed contracts for only two months thus far.

The Municipal Housing Company confirmed that the Board of Directors’ decision from November 2024, recently endorsed by the Herceg Novi Municipal Council in March, is now in effect. The updated price list covers rental costs at the markets in Herceg Novi and Igalo, as well as services at the City Chapel. These new prices will be effective starting May 1.
