“With Numerous Twists in the Game, Competing Against a Team Like Spain Is a Challenge”
In their matchup against Spain, the Montenegrin water polo players made two comebacks from a four-goal deficit, but ultimately fell 15:12 in the quarter-finals. They will now compete for a 5th to 8th place finish at the World Championship.
The score was 4:0 in favor of “Fury,” later stretching to 6:2, and after three quarters, it was a close 8:7. A critical 5:0 run sealed the match for Spain…
“We shouldn’t have allowed such fluctuations in our performance. We started with a significant deficit, made a comeback by halftime, but fell short again in the third period. Matching Spain is a tough task, and we simply couldn’t keep pace,” stated Dušan Matković.
By reaching the quarter-finals, Montenegro secured their spot for the Olympic Games, and they aim to finish their tournament in Doha on a positive note.
“Our primary goal was to qualify for Paris, but there’s a sense of disappointment since I believe we had the potential to advance further. Representing the national team means every match counts, and we must approach the upcoming games with full intensity to achieve the best possible placement,” Matković emphasized.
