The handball players from Montenegro are set to face Georgia in two upcoming matches. These will mark the first opportunity for Vlad Šola’s squad to compete since their impressive performances at the European Championship in January, where they had notable matchups against Iceland, Hungary, and Serbia.
The first of the two games is scheduled for Friday at 19:14 in the “Verde” hall, with the second match taking place in the same venue the following day at the same time.
“It is a true honor and I take pride in being part of the national team. I thank coach Šola for the opportunity. I am eagerly anticipating the friendly matches against Georgia, and even with some first-team absences, I expect us to secure convincing victories,” stated Lovcen defender Milorad Bakić.
Bakić also discussed the prospects of the “lions” qualifying for the World Cup, mentioning that their likely opponent in the play-off will be Italy.
“The Italians are a stronger team than Belgium and we foresee facing them in the play-off. Ultimately, our success depends on our performance, and I am confident it won’t present any challenges for us,” Bakić expressed.
Winger Vojislav Vukić is also keen to demonstrate his skills.
“Coach Šola has selected a younger squad during the EHF week to assess who he can rely on moving forward. We are training hard, the atmosphere is fantastic, and I believe the matches against Georgia will serve as an excellent gauge for the upcoming playoffs,” said Vukić.
He is also confident that their next matches in the playoffs will be against Italy, who previously triumphed over Belgium with a score of 29:25 in their first encounter.
“There’s still a rematch between Italy and Belgium, yet I believe it’s clear who our future opponent will be. Italy possesses a strong team that should not be underestimated, but ultimately, it’s all in our hands,” Vukić affirmed.
