Detention of Domestic Violence Suspect Extended

Bjelopoljac LS faces allegations of domestic violence, including threats to kill his wife, asserting she would be “covered in blood.”

Recently, his detention was prolonged following the submission of an indictment by the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Bijelo Polje to the local court.

Prosecutorial and court records indicate that from February 23 to 25, in their family residence in Bistrica, he repeatedly inflicted violence upon his wife, endangering her mental well-being through threats of death.

The records reveal that on February 23, he menaced her, stating: “I’ll come for your head; you’ll be covered in blood.” The next day, during a conversation over coffee, he declared he would take her life when their daughter commenced school, after which he would commit suicide.

According to prosecution documents, he threatened her two additional times that same day, having returned home inebriated:

“He inquired if she had milked the cow, and upon her affirmative response, he threatened: ‘I will kill you when the children are not present,’ also stating he would kill all four family members, referring to the injured party.” BM and the children, claiming he would report himself to the police, and later, that evening, he insulted her, accusing her of infidelity with the words: ‘You bitch, you have a lover.’

The following day, she sought refuge at the SOS Hotline for Women and Children Victims of Violence after her husband called, demanding to know her whereabouts…

In their deliberation regarding the motion to lift his detention, judges considered the testimony of the victim, who indicated a history of physical violence. She had reported her husband to law enforcement several times in the past, only to later retract those reports.

Assessing the potential risk of recidivism, they looked at the threatening nature of his statements as well as their feasibility, noting that the couple’s relationship had been strained for an extended period and that Bjelopoljac has a history of alcohol consumption.

“Even though the defendant has no prior convictions, as indicated in the case file, there remains a significant risk of reoffending, supported by evidence including the victim’s statement and insights from a witness.” NR “who volunteers at the SOS Hotline for Women and Children Victims of Violence in Bijelo Polje, confirmed that the victim had contacted this organization multiple times due to ongoing violence but ultimately refrained from pursuing legal action because of the children,” states the recent detention confirmation for the defendant.
