After securing two victories over Serbia in late February and early March, the first place is virtually guaranteed. The final two qualifying rounds for the European Championship will serve as excellent preparation for the year’s key event – Olympic qualification in Ulm.

On April 3, the Montenegrin handball team will face Turkey in Rize, then meet Bulgaria in Podgorica three days later, bringing an end to their EHF Euro 2024 qualification. Coach Bojana Popović has revealed her roster for these matches as well as the upcoming Olympic Games.

In contrast to the previous EHF week, Bojana will not be able to rely on pivot player Ivana Godeč due to injury. However, she has included occasional representative Nikolina Vukčević on the roster, while Andrijana Popović makes her return to the national team following her recovery from an injury.

Regarding the World Cup in December and the earlier encounters with Serbia, Milena Raičević has once again not been included in the lineup. In November, the former Budućnost Bemax captain filed a lawsuit against the club in Podgorica over unpaid wages, leading to her exclusion from the Montenegrin national team for the World Cup.

Milena has since transferred to Rapid from Bucharest, but the coach’s perception of one of Montenegrin handball’s legends appears unchanged.

After completing their qualifications for the continental championship, hosted by Austria, Hungary, and Switzerland, the “lionesses” are looking forward to vital matches leading up to the Olympic Games in Paris.

At the qualifying tournament in Ulm from April 11 to 14, our handball players will compete against the hosts, Germany, Slovenia (coached by former Montenegro coach Dragan Adžić), and a team from Paraguay.

The top two teams from the Ulm tournament will qualify for the Olympic Games.
