The Contributions of PhDs Often Go Unrecognized by the Public

The contributions of PhD holders often go unnoticed by the broader public, yet they form the foundation of Montenegro’s academic integrity.

This sentiment was expressed by Vladimir Božović, rector of Montenegro’s oldest higher education institution, during the celebration of the University of Montenegro’s (UCG) 51st anniversary. He noted that last year marked a significant milestone: half a century since the university’s establishment.

“The number 51 may not seem impressive today… We take pride in the knowledge generated and conveyed. We honor the doctors of science whose research reflects immense dedication… Their efforts often receive little recognition from the public, yet they are crucial to our academic integrity,” stated Božović.

As Božović articulated, the insights of a doctor of science inspire freedom, humility, and enlightenment.

“It is our duty to support them. This year, we are acknowledging notable scientists from the University of Montenegro who rank among the top two percent of the most cited researchers globally,” he remarked, stressing the university’s commitment to supporting its scholars.

He further stated that the voices of Montenegrin researchers resonate far beyond national borders.

“The university embodies a continuous dialogue, and to sustain it, we need to articulate both artistic and scientific expressions. In this fast-paced era, our approach remains: consider carefully, but thoroughly and gradually. The university cultivates a passion for science,” he concluded.

Božović conferred doctoral degrees to: Darko Blagojević, Neda Bošković, Sanja Čalović-Nenezić, Marija Draganić, Milena Đokić, Aleksandra Gezović Miljanić, Olga Jokanović, Krenar Kepuška, Milena Lopičić, Snežana Lješnjak, Pavle Malović, Luka Martinović, Nada Marstijepović Đurđić, Mihajlo Miceva, Mirjana Nedović Vuković, Arben (Bajram) Osmani, Kosta Pavlović, Maja Raičević, Isidora Rovčanin Dragović, Damir V. Sindik, Gordana Stanojević, Ivan Tepavčević, Erol Vrević, Jelena Vučinić, Tijana Vukadinović, and Milica Vukčević.

The Rector also presented awards to the top students: Milica Bigović, Marko Bolević, Božidar Ćaćić, Milica Medojević, and Marko Vulević.
