The non-governmental organization (NGO) “Green Path” hosted a roundtable discussion in Plužine focused on “The Importance of Environmental Protection of Lake Piva”.

“The aim of this roundtable was to raise awareness about the significance of enhancing environmental quality in the Piva Lake region, which is crucial for tourism growth and the economic development of the municipality of Plužine. We discussed the current state of Piva Lake’s protection, its role as a drinking water source, improvements in tourism and sports activities around the lake, waste management conditions in the area, and proposed measures to boost the lake’s environment for tourism and recreational development,” stated Dobrislav Bajović, president of the NGO “Green Path” and moderator of the discussion.

Participants included representatives from the local government, the Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) “Piva”, the Nature Park (PP) “Piva”, the Plužine Utility Company, local hiking clubs, the Hunting Association from Plužine, and the Ecological Movement “Ozon” from Nikšić.

“The roundtable facilitated open and constructive dialogue among stakeholders aimed at sharing views and experiences, while increasing awareness and knowledge on this critical issue, not just for local governance but for Montenegro as a whole. We formulated conclusions, recommendations, and suggestions to be distributed to all relevant parties in the Municipality of Plužine to enhance the environment around Lake Piva,” Bajović added.

This roundtable was part of the “Beer to Shine” Project, funded by the Municipality of Plužine from resources allocated to NGOs through a competitive grant process.
