The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) reported today that “due to the significant disruption of public order by gathered citizens” in Niš on March 21st, 11 individuals have faced prosecution so far.

According to the statement, the Niš police arrested MN (23) from Niš on suspicion of committing the offense of “violent behavior at a sports event or public gathering.”

He is alleged to have thrown a cardboard box at Mayor Dragoslav Pavlović and splashed him with water last night, as noted by the Serbian Ministry of Interior.

Upon order of the local Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, he was detained for up to 48 hours and subsequently presented to the public prosecutor along with a criminal complaint.

Another suspect, UP (22) from Niš, was taken in last night for questioning regarding the egging of Milorad Jerkan, the director of the Niš Health Center.

The investigation against him is still ongoing, as stated in the report.

Additionally, LB (26) from Niš was also brought in to provide information about “spitting at the mayor,” with police continuing to investigate all circumstances pertaining to these events.

MK (44) from Niš voluntarily responded to police inquiries regarding the egging incident involving the health center’s director.

N. Đ. (34) was also summoned in relation to the same event for further details, as mentioned in the statement.

Authorities have reached out to NO (62), IR (23), and LM (16) to gather information on egg-throwing incidents that occurred outside the Officers’ Home in Niš.

M. Š. (41) from Niš has been identified as a suspect for allegedly launching eggs at citizens from a slingshot at the same location yesterday, and efforts are underway to locate him.

ZV (51) from Niš was also brought in for questioning regarding the alleged pushing of a police officer outside the Police Department building, along with IS (born in 1974), who was present with ZV.

Thus far, ten individuals have reported to the Niš Police Department about being attacked or injured during the riots last night.

Previously, the UKC Niš reported that six citizens sought medical attention for injuries resulting from the protests, with only one remaining hospitalized.

Authorities are continuing their intensive efforts to gather information and taking operational measures in accordance with legal authority to clarify the circumstances and identify those involved in last night’s public order disturbances in Niš.
