The Civic Movement for Herceg Novi “Idemooo!”, as reported by Democratic Montenegro, will secure one councilor seat in the upcoming term of the Herceg Novi Municipal Assembly.
Olivera Doklestić, the leader of the list, expressed gratitude to the residents of Herceg Novi who participated in the voting, acknowledging the genuine efforts of her list to uphold the values of Herceg Novi, despite the particularly low turnout, especially for the ruling coalition.
“With all the celebration surrounding the 12 mandates won, they need to reflect on the significant loss of their voter base compared to the previous elections. The reduced turnout actually favored them and their allies from the New List, allowing them to maintain a semblance of cohesion in their voting body and mandate count, while those who might have supported other parties chose to stay home,” Doklestić stated, according to the RTHN portal.
For Doklestić, the low voter turnout signifies a setback for democracy and freedom of expression, casting doubt on the integrity of the electoral process.
“There was significant pressure and numerous unfair tactics involved. Of course, the leading parties financed their campaigns with substantial amounts of money. The budget we allocated for our campaign as a small civic movement seems almost insignificant by comparison. From that perspective, our achievement is remarkable. It’s astonishing that a group formed just two months ago managed to gain a seat in the local parliament,” Doklestić remarked.
