Police officer Daut Kalač from Bijelo Polje witnessed Edmir Ramović shoot in the center of Rožaje, resulting in the death of Semir Murić and injuries to his colleague, Refik Dedeić.

This statement was made yesterday at the Higher Court in Bijelo Polje, where Ramović is being tried for the murder of Semir Murić and for wounding officer Dedeić near the Basic Court in Rožaje nearly four years ago. The accusation states that on December 21, 2021, in Rožaje, Ramović acted out of revenge for an incident a year prior, involving Semir Murić and several of his family members, who are facing criminal charges in the Basic Court for causing bodily harm to close relatives of the accused.

“I saw Edmir running with a gun from the direction of the Square towards Vrtić, specifically between the Square and the ‘Skala’ café, ignoring my commands to ‘Drop the gun.’ He fired towards a group of people,” he recounted, indicating he was unaware at the time who the target was.

Kalač noted that he approached Ramović, seized him by the left shoulder, and brought him face down to the ground, after which his colleague Safet Sinanović joined him.

“While Edmir was subdued, the gun was underneath him, and he was struggling. Then, a second shot rang out, and I later discovered that my colleague Dedeić had been struck. That bullet could have hit me as well, since Dedeić was behind me,” he explained, clarifying that he didn’t believe Ramović was aiming at Dedeić.

In response to his claim that Dedeić was shot as he knelt to assist in bringing down Ramović, defense attorney Drago Konatar questioned the witness’ accuracy regarding Dedeić’s position, suggesting that surveillance video would challenge the statement.

Dedeić, who testified in an earlier session, indicated he was injured while rushing to help his colleague.

When the defense pressed for clarification about his statement from the investigation—which forms part of the indictment asserting that “when the defendant fired the first shot, the group in which Semir was standing was still”—the officer affirmed his original statement, explaining that the people present did not react at that moment.

Vidomir Bošković, the attorney representing the injured Murić family, emphasized that the witness’s testimony clearly indicates that “Ramović shot Murić at a time when he was engaged in no illegal activity.”

Police officer Ruždija Kujević revealed that after the incident, he learned Edmir had received the gun from Fatima Ramović, the spouse of Sabar Ramović.

That the tragedy outside the courthouse could have been even greater was corroborated by police officer Nedžad Kuč, who said he had to forcibly take Sabar Ramović into the courthouse, where a search uncovered a gun and a knife.

Kuč also noted blood on Sabar Ramović’s hands, and his colleague, police officer Kemal Šaljić, observed blood at the corner of the victim’s father’s mouth.

Semir’s brothers, Saudin and Alan Murić, although not witnesses, reported that Edmir and other Ramović family members had issued multiple death threats against them and their family, which they consistently reported to law enforcement. Elsad Ramović openly threatened their father, Senad, in Berane, declaring: “I will kill your sons.”

Ramović is currently on trial in the Higher Court for the murder of his fellow citizen, Murić, which he committed out of brutal vengeance.

Due to the accused’s potential release after three years from the filing of the indictment, the cases against Elsan, Salk (51), Ernes, and Ernad Ramović for their participation in the altercation, as well as against Sabro Ramović (55) for illegal possession of firearms, have been separated. These cases will proceed in the Basic Court in Rožaje or Berane.

The trial is set to resume on April 22.
