Even though the second day of competition has just wrapped up, the European Karate Championship for the Montenegrin team is already shaping up to be historic!

Young fighter Nemanja Mikulić from Bijela has advanced to the final in the middleweight category, and there is also a bronze medal performance from the distinguished kata practitioner Vladimir Mijač from Bar. Our team is set to vie for four additional medals over the weekend.

A key player in the battle for medals and one of the top karatekas today, Nenad Dulović will compete for his third major individual medal—this time for bronze against Moldovan Aleksandar Kamoale. Dulović faced a setback in the semifinals, losing to Turkish fighter Omer Abdulrahim 5:3.

In the opening round, Nenad triumphed 4:2 over Joaquim Mendes from Portugal. He then secured a 3:1 victory against Italy’s Luca Marescu and defeated Amar Hai Oulad Younes from Belgium without conceding a point (4:0).

The kata teams also performed well, clinching bronze in their matches. The men’s kata team achieved victories against Switzerland and Serbia but was edged out by Spain in the semifinals. They will compete for the bronze medal against the French team on Sunday.

The women’s kata team triumphed over the Macedonian squad but later lost to the Spanish team, which has allowed our team to contest for bronze against the French team by reaching the final.

Balša Vojinović made a winning debut at Euro. After losing 2:1 to Arif Orges from Albania, he bounced back in the repechage, defeating Martin Drabek from the Czech Republic by the advantage of the first point (9:9), and then won 4:2 against Velasco Primika Urka from Spain, earning a chance for the bronze medal against Kenan Šiljko from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Anja Jović, Helena Backović, and the women’s team faced more challenges in their matches.

Tomorrow, the men’s fighting team will take to the tatami, led by coach Almir Cecunjanin, featuring fighters Mikulić, Dulović, Jovović, Malović, and Vojinović, all of whom have shown strong form in Armenia.
