Australia would have been a better choice than the USA.
The Montenegrin water polo team faces a challenging group at the Olympic Games in Paris. Given that they were drawn from the sixth and final pot, they had little expectation of favorable outcomes.
The “Ajkule” will compete in Group A alongside Italy, Croatia, Romania, Greece, and the United States, aiming for a top-four finish to reach the quarterfinals.
“This Olympic tournament is set to be exceptionally competitive, leaving us with limited alternatives. Our chances would have been better if we had faced Australia instead of the USA, who currently appear stronger. The rest of the teams are all elite-level contenders,” remarked coach Vladimir Gojković, who further added:
“We will have ample time to prepare, and we cannot afford to underestimate anyone. However, we can hold onto the hope of competing closely with every opponent in our group,” Gojković stated.
The water polo tournament in Paris is scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 11.
