The water polo season, which began with two major national team competitions, continues with club matches starting in Montenegro this Wednesday.
Specifically, the new season of the Montenegrin championship will kick off, featuring four familiar teams: Jadran, Primorac, Budva, and Kataro.
According to the Water Polo and Swimming Association, following results in the Regional Leagues (Premier and A1), matches will be conducted in a home-and-away system.
“Jadran, the sole participant in the Premier League, begins the Montenegrin championship with four points, while Primorac, the top Montenegrin team in the A1 league, starts with three. Kataro starts with two points and Budva with one,” stated the VPSCG.
The opening round on Wednesday will feature the Kotor derby between Primorac and Kataro at 18:00, followed by Jadran facing Budva an hour later at Škver.
The second round is set for March 2nd, featuring matches between Primorac and Budva, and Kataro against Jadran. The third round, on April 2nd or 3rd, will highlight the highly anticipated derby between Jadran and Primorac.
After six rounds of the league phase, there will be playoffs to determine the final ranking. The top two teams from the league will compete for first place and the championship title in a best-of-three playoff final.
Jadran has been the reigning champion since 2014, when they claimed the cup from Budva. Overall, they have been crowned the best in Montenegro for the 12th time, while Primorac and Budva each hold two championship titles.
