The Minister of Interior, Danilo Šaranović, acting on the recommendation of the interim director of the Police Directorate, Lazar Šćepanović, has decided to suspend six additional police officers for their involvement in a criminal organization, causing security disruptions, and committing various serious offenses, as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić.

Bečić emphasized that this action aligns with the clear objective to purify the security sector of individuals whose actions contradict both the law and the state’s interests, marking a significant advancement in establishing a system that refuses to tolerate any collusion with crime, corruption, lavish lifestyles incompatible with earnings, and other illegal activities.

He also noted that this is merely the beginning and that they have “only scratched the surface.”

“A serious state in the fight against organized crime does not make compromises with those responsible for its protection who instead undermine it. Trust from the citizens in institutions will not be cultivated if the system fails to cleanse itself internally,” Bečić stated.

He urged all relevant state authorities to pursue their initiatives with even greater resolve, adding, “I offer my heartfelt gratitude to all honorable members of the police force.”

“You maintain the boundary between lawfulness and lawlessness. You prove that one can serve the state courageously and the citizens unselfishly. Your uniform and the powers you wield in accordance with the Law are symbols of honor and integrity. That honor will be safeguarded, as Montenegro will no longer overlook anyone who violates the law,” Bečić concluded.
