The Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, under the direction of Mirko Kuprešaković, is investigating Milorad Dodik’s crossing of the state border. This was announced by the agency on March 25.

Dodik crossed the border from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Serbia the previous day, traveling to Batajnica, near Belgrade, to commemorate the anniversary of the NATO bombing.

Alongside Dodik, the President, Prime Minister, and Speaker of the Republika Srpska Assembly—Milorad Dodik, Radovan Višković, and Nenad Stevandić—are suspected of undermining the constitutional order, with a central arrest warrant issued for them, as reported to Radio Free Europe on March 17.

Upon issuance of a central warrant, all 16 police agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina are obligated to execute the arrest. Each agency is tasked with preventing crimes, identifying perpetrators, solving offenses, and collaborating with relevant prosecutor’s offices.

“We are undertaking all necessary steps to clarify how the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, crossed the border between BiH and Serbia. The BiH Border Police will notify the BiH Prosecutor’s Office and work alongside all law enforcement bodies,” the statement outlined.

The BiH Border Police expressed its commitment to taking all available measures to safeguard the state border and ensure the security of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Moreover, the BiH Border Police is actively monitoring the situation at the state border and will take actions as per existing legal regulations and its own protocols, in addition to enhancing cooperation with other police entities and neighboring nations to thwart illegal border crossings and other forms of cross-border crime,” the statement noted.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is served by three police agencies at the state level, one at the entity level, and one in the Brčko District. Additionally, the ten cantons within the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina each have their police forces.

Given the intricate structure of the state, some jurisdictions overlap.

Most police agencies in the country are responsible for preventing criminal offenses, detecting perpetrators, investigating crimes, and coordinating with competent prosecutorial offices.

The BiH Border Police oversees state border controls, enforces laws regarding foreign movement and residence, and addresses criminal offenses related to border security.
