The ruling in the “Envelope” case undermines citizens’ common sense and jeopardizes judicial integrity.
The Civic Movement (GP) URA has denounced the acquittals of the defendants involved in the “Envelope” affair.
The party expressed that this signifies yet another blow to citizens’ faith and a severe deterioration of the judiciary’s integrity and all related institutions within the country.
“Rather than delivering justice and punishing those implicated in blatant corruption, as captured on video, citizens are again confronted with a disgraceful mockery of justice and a violation of fundamental principles of the rule of law,” the URA GP statement asserts.
They further claim that the “Envelope” affair symbolizes a corrupt system and the illicit financing of political parties and election campaigns.
“Any attempt to downplay this act, as reflected in this court’s conclusion, communicates that there are still entrenched and corrupt institutions within Montenegro’s system,” it continues.
The URA Police Headquarters reminded that the “Envelope” affair led to what they described as the most extensive civil protests in the last 30 years, dubbed “Resist,” which significantly contributed to the acceleration of the demise of the thirty-year regime.
“The citizens of Montenegro deserve truth, justice, and institutions that act in their interests—not a system that obstinately seeks to uphold outdated schemes and safeguard the individuals involved in scandals that have plagued this country for decades,” the statement concluded.
