Cheers to Andrija Delibašić’s Victory: The French May Be More Formidable, But Our Focus is on Gibraltar First

Montenegrin football players are fueled by a strong motivation as they prepare for the World Cup qualifiers and their upcoming match against Gibraltar this Saturday in Nikšić.

The early departure of Andrija Delibasic represents a significant loss for Montenegrin football and sports as a whole. In light of this, Stefan Mugoša expresses the team’s desire to secure a victory that the “brave falcons” will dedicate to Deli, the player who netted the most crucial goal in the history of our national team.

“Deli has left an unforgettable legacy in Montenegrin sports, and this is a very heartbreaking moment for our entire nation. He is a football legend, and it is our duty to win and somehow honor him,” stated the striker for Korea’s Incheon United.

Delibasic’s iconic goal against England, which secured qualification for the European Championship play-offs, has inspired countless generations of the Montenegrin national team.

“It’s a historic goal, and the way he risked injury to chase down that ball and find the net serves as an example for how every player should perform while representing their country,” Mugoša remarked emphatically.

Our players are the clear favorites heading into their first two qualifying matches.

“The most challenging games are often the ones you think you’ve already won. We’re taking it one step at a time; our first opponent is Gibraltar, a team we know well from previous encounters. We must remain patient, as such matches can often be decided in the second half. It’s crucial not to lose our composure if we don’t score early, although it would be ideal to find the back of the net quickly. We possess the quality; we just need to stay calm, and I’m confident that everything will turn out well,” emphasized Mugoša.

Just four days ago, Montenegro secured a 4:1 victory against Gibraltar at the stadium near Gorica.

“We need to be cautious and concentrated. Nowadays, every team plays football well. The Faroe Islands are definitely a step up from Gibraltar, as demonstrated by the past encounters between Montenegrin clubs and teams from the Faroe Islands. They are certainly stronger than our immediate opponent, but let’s keep our focus on the first game before we shift our thoughts to the next contest,” he continued.

Mugoša is off to a strong start this season in the South Korean Second League, with Nikola Krstović and Stevan Jovetić also finding the back of the net consistently…

“We’re in a good rhythm and eager for victories and goals. I hope we can bring that energy to the national team,” Mugoša concluded.
