12 years ago, Dragan Adžić made history by winning a silver medal with the Montenegrin women’s handball team at the Olympic Games in London.

Fast forward 12 years, Adžić has now guided the Slovenian women’s handball team to their first-ever Olympic Games. Today, Slovenia triumphed over Montenegro (30:26), leaving the “lionesses” without a spot at the Games.

“I want to emphasize the remarkable job that Bojana Popović and Maja Savić have done with this national team, both in Budućnost and with Montenegro’s national team. I bow to their efforts. Today, this team exhibited incredible determination and performance. They have the potential for Los Angeles,” Adžić stated after the match for RTCG.

Having coached Slovenia for three years, Adžić has achieved significant results with the team.

“My vision was that we could qualify, that we were deserving. It turns out these girls truly are deserving, and I am proud of their development. The support we receive from the Federation and Crimea has greatly aided us,” he remarked.

He also expressed confidence in the future of Montenegrin handball.

“Montenegro’s roster is such that they give their maximum. I know the players well, respect them, and saw them give everything they have. It could have been tougher with a few more handball players. Montenegro has a future, given the efforts and conditions they have. I am not worried about Montenegro’s future. With this generation, Slovenia has a chance to compete at the Olympic Games. We will strive to support the development of young players in Slovenia,” Adžić concluded.
