Vini JR Moves Brazil Closer to World Cup Glory
Brazil triumphed in the derby against Colombia with a score of 2:1, marking a significant stride towards qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
During the 13th round of the South American qualifiers, Brazil took an early lead with a penalty converted by Rafinha in the 6th minute.
Luis Diaz managed to bring the game level in the 41st minute, thanks to an assist from James Rodriguez.
Luck was not on the side of the Colombians, who suffered a heartbreaking loss in the ninth minute of injury time when Vinicius Junior netted his first goal of the qualifiers.
“We earned this victory, we battled until the very end without giving up, and it feels great to finally score. I’m relieved and happy,” expressed Vinicius.
Brazil currently stands second with 21 points, trailing Argentina, who has 25 points, while Colombia holds sixth place with 19 points after experiencing three consecutive defeats. The Colombians also faced a loss in Uruguay, occurring in the 11th minute of injury time.
The home teams performed strongly, with Paraguay overcoming Chile 1-0, while Peru claimed a 3-1 victory against Bolivia.
