The pre-trial chamber of the Higher Court in Podgorica has decided to consolidate the court proceedings against former Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoj Katnić and former Assistant Director of the Police Administration Zoran Lazović with the case involving former Special Prosecutor Saša Čađenović.

This decision was made upon the recommendation of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT).

The case has been assigned to Judge Veljko Radovanović.

As a result of the cases being merged, the start of the trial for the accused Čađenović has been postponed.

In October of the previous year, the special panel of the High Court confirmed the indictment against Saša Čađenović.

He was apprehended in December 2022 on the grounds of allegedly establishing a criminal organization and committing several instances of abuse of official position.

The SDT suspects him of aligning his official duties with the interests of the Kavača criminal clan.

The indictment asserts that he committed the offense of establishing a criminal organization as outlined in Article 401-a, paragraph 2, along with paragraphs 1 and 6 of the Criminal Code, by becoming a member of a criminal organization formed across multiple countries by the defendant Radoje Zvicer during the latter half of 2020. It is alleged that the activities of this criminal organization have impacted the state prosecutor’s office.

Specifically, defendant Saša Čađenović, in his role as a special prosecutor, along with other associates from the Police Administration of Montenegro, agreed to execute the orders and directives of the criminal organization’s leader. These were conveyed to him through other members of the organization to cover up the offenders of serious crimes and refrain from initiating legal actions against them.
