VPK Budućnost Joins the Family

The Budućnost family, which is under municipal ownership, has cleared all barriers for joining the distinguished VPK Budućnost water polo and swimming club.

During yesterday’s city council meeting, every councilor from Podgorica unanimously endorsed VPK Budućnost as a municipally-owned entity.

Founded in just 2018, VPK Budućnost is already projecting significant results and untapped potential.

“Podgorica is acquiring the club without any financial investment since legal matters and various misconceptions suggested that the Sports Facilities of Podgorica were the club’s founders. There are no issues regarding funding competitions for sports organizations, as 100,000 euros were allocated in the budget for VPK Budućnost—double the amount from last year. Additionally, a further 20,000 euros were added due to budget adjustments. The club boasts incredible talent and potential for water polo development. We have a vast base, and we will approach the Government to push for the construction of new pools,” remarked Deputy Mayor Luka Rakcevic, who also commented:

“As a municipal club, VPK Budućnost will provide free training sessions in accordance with the Secretariat for Sports’ schedule. Unfortunately, we face numerous issues with funding competition for Main Guard sports, stemming from the Law on Sports. I urge the creation of a new law. There are significant uncertainties and entirely different practices. It is crucial for the Ministry to revise or draft a new law,” the deputy mayor appealed.

Acting Secretary of the Secretariat for Sport and proposal initiator for taking over VPK Budućnost, Miloš Antic, stated:

“We believe that water polo swimming sports deserve greater support. Transferring management to the Capital City will ensure they receive it. One of our goals is to establish a senior water polo team that we hope will commence in September. While young, the club is already competitive, particularly with the water polo players born in 2009, who can contend with teams from Jadran or Primorje. We have a record budget for sports organizations, and a new initiative is to provide increased support for clubs not owned by the municipality that produce outstanding champions and achieve high results. They rightfully deserve more,” Antic concluded.

The validation of VPK Budućnost’s excellent work came swiftly—selector Nenad Vukanić, a renowned water polo player and coach from Kotor, invited five players from Budućnost’s 2009 cohort to join the Montenegrin national team for the upcoming tournament in Naples.
