Minister of Public Administration Maraš Dukaj reported that members of the “Varvari” fan group attacked bystanders and vandalized property in Tuzi last night, which included damage to local eateries.
The Police Directorate stated that around 20:30 p.m., an incident took place in Tuzi, coinciding with the departure of fans from the Dečić – Budućnost match, involving the “Varvari” and patrons of a local establishment.
Dukaj emphasized that the match in Tuzi was played in a spirit of sportsmanship, with fair play and an excellent atmosphere on the field.
“Unfortunately, as has been seen too often, the occasion was spoiled by the vandalism of certain fans from the Varvari group, who attacked bystanders and damaged property, including local eateries, after the match. Europe addressed the issue of hooliganism four decades ago, following the tragic events at Heysel Stadium in 1985, where 39 lives were lost due to fan clashes. Yet, in Montenegro, we continue to witness a lack of substantial response from the responsible authorities,” Dukaj posted on the X network.
He inquired, “What more needs to happen for institutions to finally recognize their responsibilities and implement concrete measures?”
“Such incidents must not happen again – neither in Tuzi nor any other part of Montenegro. It is time for decisive action and the safeguarding of citizens,” Dukaj asserted.
