Local landowners from Mrčevo Polje and Jaz, represented by two NGOs, “Jaz – Mrčevo Polje” and “Jaz Plaža,” will block access to the gap tomorrow to protest the authorities’ inaction regarding ongoing issues in Grblja. In a letter addressed to the Minister of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property, Slaven Radulović, and signed by NGO presidents Ilija Bućin and Branka Marović, they announced plans to block the entrance with vehicles at 4 PM, expecting to be invited for discussion.

“We represent the residents of Jaz and the NGOs uniting landowners in Mrčevo Polje and Jaz, as well as owners of properties along Jaz beach. We need to communicate the ongoing issues that have affected us as beach users over the years—first affecting beachgoers, then tenants, and ultimately, all visitors. We’ve previously raised these concerns in December 2023, but no resolutions have been implemented,” the letter stated.

They emphasize the urgent need for discussions on the communal development surrounding Jaz beach.

“It is crucial to address the installation of public toilets and their locations, improve hygiene management—particularly the timely emptying of waste containers during peak season—and enhance sewage infrastructure. As there are no public roads in Jaz, dialogue with land and property owners is essential to explore the most suitable solutions for beach access that protect private property rights while benefiting the community. All infrastructure (electricity, water, and sewage) traverses private plots, thus beaches cannot be leased without our agreement. To emphasize this, on Thursday, April 17, we plan to block the entrance to Jaz with our vehicles, basically parking them on our land. If required, we may also fence off our property in Jaz. The initial step toward resolving these issues is organizing a meeting with all relevant stakeholders,” concludes the letter.
