Milestone Triumph for Montenegro’s Trailblazers

The Montenegrin women’s pioneer volleyball team marked a significant achievement in the initial round of qualifiers for the U16 European Championship in Sofia by defeating the Serbian national team decisively with a score of 3:0 (25:21, 25:18, 25:20).
This victory represents the first time a Montenegrin team has triumphed over Serbia, a noted powerhouse in volleyball, making it a historic moment.
From the match’s outset, Petar Koković’s squad demonstrated excellent performance. They clinched the first set in the final moments, leading 21:19, after which Klara Đukić’s serve created four set points (24:20). They converted the second to win the set 25:21.
Throughout the subsequent sets, our pioneers maintained a high standard of play. Even when trailing 10:8, they quickly turned the match around and took command, leading 18:14 and later 23:17, sealing the second set 25:18 and establishing a 2:0 lead.
In the third set, Montenegro asserted dominance, going ahead 15:9 and then 17:11. By the set’s conclusion, our team had surged ahead with a commanding 20:13 lead, ultimately finishing it off at 25:20, cementing a historic 3:0 victory against Serbia.
Klara Đukić played a crucial role in this victory, scoring 15 points, followed by Elena Jovanović with 10.
Next up for our girls is a match against Bulgaria tomorrow at 16:30 PM.
