The President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, attended an event hosted by Prime Minister Našbina Kurti, organized for the International Gathering “Summit on the Western Balkans, Prosperity and Solidarity,” under the aegis of the London-based “Economist.”

Djukanovic’s visit was kept under wraps, and tonight, attendees from the EU, business, and financial sectors were present, including former European Parliament President Martin Schulz and former President of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger, along with US ambassadors and EU representatives in Kosovo.

“Djukanovic used this opportunity to inform attendees about the current situation in Montenegro and to discuss regional dynamics in light of shared European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, as well as global developments,” the statement noted.

It further added that during “this prestigious international gathering,” participants are expected to exchange ideas, visions, and strategies concerning the ongoing crisis caused by Russia’s aggression, and the urgent need for the faster integration of Western Balkan nations into the EU.

Earlier today, the Kosovo Police announced that certain routes would be temporarily closed for Djukanovic’s visit to Kosovo.

“To facilitate the free movement of the President of Montenegro, the Kosovo Police will temporarily halt traffic (for short intervals) on specific road sections, as well as at certain locations, where activities are anticipated,” the police stated.

Djukanovic’s visit follows local elections in Montenegro, where, for the first time in 24 years, the DPS lost control in Pljevlja, Danilovgrad, Zabljak, and Zeta, retaining power only in Bar, Bijelo Polje, and Nikšić.
