Montenegrin goalkeeper Lazar Carević has been recognized as the best goalkeeper in February in the Portuguese Primera.
This season, Carević joined Famalicao, where he played three matches in February without conceding any goals, significantly contributing to the team’s success in securing seven out of nine possible points.
During February, Famalicão had a goalless draw with Guimarães (0:0), and victories over Gil Vicente (2:0) and Moreirense (2:0).
In the voting for the Goalkeeper of the Month, Carević triumphed with 19.66 percent of the votes, surpassing Cezario Mista of Rio Ave and Gabriel Batista of Santa Clara.
The Portuguese team struggled for wins, going 10 matches without a victory in both the championship and the Cup from November through January. However, their fortunes began to change at the end of January, where they drew with Estrella (0:0) and defeated Boavista (2:0), with Carević maintaining his clean sheet in these fixtures as well. Following that, February brought three impressive matches, leading to outstanding results for the club and the 25-year-old goalkeeper, who had achieved five consecutive matches without conceding a goal, including those in January.
Carević seized the opportunity well, having only made his first appearance in the Primeira Liga this season in mid-December. He took over the goalkeeping duties from Ivan Zlobin, who had returned from injury. In his 12 matches in the Portuguese championship, he conceded a total of 14 goals, with seven of those coming from clashes against Benfica (3) and Sporting Lisbon (4).
After 26 rounds of play, Famalicão is positioned ninth in the standings with 34 points.
