Today, the Serbian Military Union declared that it does not maintain contact with “any political or other organization that seeks to undermine the state of Serbia and its institutions.”
Earlier, certain media reported on a recording from an informal gathering of students and activists in Novi Sad, where it was mentioned that “the army union has reached out to us and is prepared” for the upcoming student protest in Belgrade.
“We refuse to be associated with groups that, with the support of foreign entities, aim to topple Serbia, instigate unrest, and make attempts at a violent power takeover. We are soldiers who have pledged loyalty to Serbia and are willing to lay down our lives to defend our state and its people. Our ancestors demand this of us, as the Serbian soldier has historically exemplified the defense of our homeland, something no one else has done, and which we all cherish,” stated the Military Union of Serbia.
They urged Professor Marija Vasić, who referenced the “army union” in the recorded dialogue, to “publicly clarify which union within the VSS is intending to harm its state, execute a coup, or is in contact with such entities, and to report them to the state prosecutor’s office.”
“The Serbian Army is robust, well-equipped, and perpetually ready to defend its populace and nation against any adversary,” the announcement from the Serbian Military Union concluded.
