DPM Ivanović Inaugurates Montenegro’s Pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Osaka

The National Pavilion of Montenegro at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, was officially inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović.

In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović highlighted the importance of Montenegro’s involvement in EXPO 2025, noting that the design of the Montenegrin pavilion represents a blend of tradition and modernity — embodying our authenticity, openness, and harmonious relationship with nature. He pointed out that through this pavilion, Montenegro aims to convey a clear message of being a country of dialogue, knowledge, and cooperation, eager to forge new partnerships and friendships.

Ms. Kieko Oku, Managing Director of the Montenegro-Japan Friendship Association, also addressed the audience, reflecting on the longstanding relationship between the two countries, which has been symbolized in recent years by the planting of cherry trees across Montenegro as a gesture of goodwill.

The ceremony saw the presence of members of the Montenegrin delegation, including the Minister of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property Slaven Radunović, along with the Minister of Tourism Simonida Kordić.

Distinguished guests included Mr. Manatsu Ichinoki, Deputy Secretary General of the Japan Association for EXPO 2025; Mr. Yahel Vilan, General Commissioner of the State of Israel for EXPO 2025 and former Ambassador to Montenegro; and Mr. Filippo Francini, General Commissioner of the Republic of San Marino for EXPO 2025.

Under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” EXPO 2025 will host over 160 countries and international organizations. The event is predicted to draw over 28 million visitors across six months, providing a unique opportunity to showcase the cultural values, economic potential, and innovations of participating nations.

The pavilion of Montenegro was conceptualized by a team of Turkish architects, who were the winners of an international design competition, under the theme “Celebrating Togetherness.” Drawing inspiration from Montenegro’s diverse geography, vibrant colors, and the rich Adriatic coastline, the pavilion represents the coexistence of differences and harmony between humanity and nature.

Montenegro’s participation in EXPO 2025 is a strategic initiative of the Government, organized through the Ministry of Economic Development. This project, in cooperation with other ministries and relevant institutions, reflects a cohesive national effort to showcase Montenegro on one of the world’s foremost global platforms.
