The Buducnost Voli basketball team made a significant move toward securing first place in the AdmiralBet ABA League with their victory over Partizan. Following this major derby win, coach Andrej Žakelj acknowledged the challenge posed by their next opponent.

Next, they will face Krka on Saturday at 5 PM. While Krka may not match the prowess of the “blues” or “black and whites,” they must be treated with respect.

The Podgorica team must avoid complacency in this match where victory seems assured, especially just five days after such an important win.

“Krka is always a tough opponent at home, and I anticipate the same in this matchup. They nearly triumphed over Partizan and Red Star, showcasing solid basketball. We need to maintain our focus. The most crucial aspect ahead of this game is our approach,” Žakelj stated.

Currently, Buducnost holds a three-win lead over Partizan as the regular season nears its end, coupled with a favorable head-to-head record. They can afford one loss and still retain their top position. Following the Krka game, they will have a home matchup against FMP and an away game in Dubai.

“Krka is a strong team, well-coached, and this will not be an easy game. With the right mindset and effort, I anticipate we will secure another win and move one step closer to first place before the playoffs commence,” commented Kenan Kamenjaš, the center for ABA League leaders.

As a note, Krka has recorded five wins across 27 rounds.

“Budućnost is undeniably the best team in the league right now, and there are no excuses left regarding how Euroleague competition has affected the ABA League outcomes. They outperformed Partizan fairly, having the same preparation time as their opponents. The performances from Podgorica have been somewhat surprising to me, but based on their displays, they are certainly among the favorites, especially with a home advantage. I know my colleague Andrej Žakelj will leave nothing to chance, as every match is vital for maintaining their top position,” remarked Krka coach Dejan Jakara, who succeeded Žakelj on the SC Derbji bench last season.
