Duško Stjepović, an MP from Democratic Montenegro, has introduced a Bill to amend the Law on Protection and Rescue for parliamentary consideration.
According to Stjepović, the amendment pertains to Article 46f, which states that members of the protection and rescue service can access pension rights under favorable conditions upon reaching 50 years of age and 30 years of insurance service, with a minimum of 10 years spent in roles that qualify for increased insurance duration.
He noted that under the current legislation, this entitlement can be claimed until December 31.
“The proposed legislation I have submitted seeks to extend this deadline, allowing members of the protection service to claim their rights under the same conditions until December 31, 2028. Given the short timeline, the advanced age demographic of service members, and the advantageous conditions, a significant number would likely secure their pension rights by the end of this year. This could lead to a staffing shortage in the protection service, jeopardizing its essential operations,” he remarked.
By modifying this article and extending the deadline to December 31, 2028, Stjepović believes that a considerable exodus of service personnel can be avoided, providing a necessary period for training new recruits.
“Acknowledging the critical importance of sustaining the efficacy of protection and rescue services, as well as the potential drawbacks of not adopting this amendment, I anticipate unanimous support from my fellow MPs for this proposed legislative measure,” Stjepović concluded.
