Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) have the potential to leverage regional capital projects in the energy sector as a catalyst for economic growth, as noted by the Minister of Mining, Oil and Gas and Coordinator of the Ministry of Energy, Admir Šahmanović, along with BiH Ambassador Branimir Jukić.

The two officials explored avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly concentrating on the energy sector and collaborative infrastructure endeavors of regional significance.

They highlighted that the existing relations between the two nations are grounded in mutual trust and support, yet recognize the opportunity for further enhancement, especially through specific joint initiatives aimed at fostering economic growth and reinforcing regional stability.

“Our cooperative relationship, characterized by mutual support, keeps bilateral ties at a commendable level; nevertheless, there is always room for deepening our collaboration. We must focus on conceiving regional energy projects, which both BiH and Montenegro should identify as opportunities for economic advancement,” expressed the shared viewpoint of Šahmanović and Jukić.

According to statements from the Ministry, Šahmanović specifically underscored the significance of the Adriatic-Ionian gas pipeline project, which has progressed to the city of Viora in Albania.

This infrastructure initiative not only promises revenue through transit fees but also serves as a means to further enhance the energy independence and international presence of both nations.

Šahmanović encouraged Jukić to commence a review of the project’s current status and explore potential collaborative steps for its implementation with the relevant institutions in BiH.

“The officials exchanged thoughts on additional energy-related topics, including Lake Bileća and fee collection issues,” the release indicated.

Šahmanović stressed the importance of having pertinent state institutions convene to outline forthcoming actions that have been initiated, ensuring support for resolving these issues within their authority.

“The advancement and construction of strategic infrastructure must be a priority for our nations. With modern technologies and adaptability for transporting green hydrogen, this gas pipeline can evolve into a cornerstone of energy security and a foundation for sustainable long-term development,” remarked Šahmanović.

Montenegro and BiH jointly assessed that they possess the capability, vision, and partnership needed.

“Let’s capitalize on our collective potential to forge a more stable, interconnected, and prosperous future for our citizens and the broader Western Balkans region,” concluded the interlocutors.
