Primorac clinched the initial two championships following the re-establishment of Montenegrin independence, but then faded from the major water polo spotlight. After two Budva titles, the scene shifted predominantly to Jadran.

For the most part, Novljani effortlessly secured the championship titles, marking a nine-year streak. However, it’s unusual for earlier finals this season to deliver intense drama.

As the second match in the final series approaches, Primorac, fresh from a break at Škver (9:6), is set to host Jadran at 18:00. A victory would position them just a step away from the title.

“We’re pleased with the break, but the journey isn’t over,” emphasized Primorac’s key player Drasko Brguljan in an interview with Radio Kotor. “Jadran remains the favorite; they’ve competed in the Champions League and have strengthened their squad compared to last season.”

Meanwhile, Jadran is determined to regain their momentum and home advantage.

“It’s crucial to reclaim the break we lost at Škver, and our team is prepared. We’re entering with renewed intensity — we cannot afford to lose,” stated Jovan Vujović, center of the Adriatic.

The legendary Kotor water polo player recognizes the challenge that lies ahead in the second match.

“I anticipate Jadran will adopt a more aggressive approach than in the first match in Herceg Novi. Our defensive performance needs to replicate that of Škver for us to have a solid chance,” Brguljan remarked.

Vujović confirmed the weight of the pressure on the champions.

“Certainly, we feel it. We’ve been dominant for years, and this season we’ve built a stronger team than in previous years,” commented the Jadran representative.

Apart from the title, there’s an additional driving force at play.

“The champion earns a spot in the Champions League — that adds pressure, but also heightens the adrenaline and motivation to perform,” Vujović highlighted.

For Primorac, another source of inspiration will be their loyal supporters…

“We have a dedicated fanbase that attends every match, no matter the opponent, just like in previous years. Their support motivates us to craft a compelling narrative for Primorac,” Brguljan concluded.
