Kralj’s Five-Goal Performance Brings Primorac Within Reach of the Title
Primorac is on the brink of victory, with the title celebration poised to take place in Kotor for the first time since 2008.
Vjekoslav Pasković’s team triumphed over Jadran in the second match of the final series, securing a 15:13 win in their own pool. They now need just one more victory to claim their third championship title in Montenegro’s history.
This remarkable achievement was highlighted by goalkeeper Aleksandro Kralj, who scored a critical goal at 10:11, just 11 seconds before the final whistle, securing the five-pointer. Moments later, he cemented his status as a hero by saving crucial penalties from Lazar Vukićević and Jovan Vujović.
Primorac will have their first match ball on Saturday at Škver.
The Novljan team started strong in the Bokelje derby at the “Zoran-Džimi Gopčević” pool, initially leading 2:0 and then 3:1. However, driven by the youthful energy of Srđan Janović, Primorac quickly regrouped and took the lead for the first time in the last minute of the first quarter when Đorđije Stanojević found the net.
Jadran managed a comeback with a 2:0 turnaround in the second period, achieving a 5:4 mini-series, and then waited nearly 11 minutes for another goal—until the third quarter ended with Strahinja Gojković scoring, bringing the score to 8:6.
In the final seconds of the game, Marko Mršić restored a three-goal lead for the home team. However, the excitement continued, as only two minutes and three seconds before the end, Petr Radanović’s players equalized at 10:10 through a counterattack by Vasilij Radović, later taking the lead with a goal from Dmitrij The Cold.
Primorac failed to capitalize on their attack, and with 25 seconds remaining, Kralj took control of the ball and made a remarkable six-meter shot, catching Darko Đurović off-guard to equalize. This moment is one rarely seen in water polo.
Understanding that the job was not yet complete, Kralj then denied Vukićević and Vujović during the penalty shootout, paving the way for a grand celebration in Kotor.
Janović was a standout scorer for the winning team, contributing three goals, including successful penalty shots along with Nikola Brkić, Marko Mršić, and Nikola Marković.
On the opposing side, Holod and Danilo Radović found the net, but it wasn’t enough for Jadran to complete a major comeback and even the series. Now, they stand one step away from relinquishing the crown to their fiercest rival.
